Written by John Mac Tavish and Directed by Surash Chand, SPIRAL is the story of a young girl spinning out of control after the loss of her Mother.

Working with the Director, I constructed the opening around what I believe was a very compelling scene. We had Jenny's story being told from a bridge over the River Clyde in Glasgow's busy City Centre. I suggested this based on the practice of telling your problems to the river so that it may carry them away. It also provided us with a great pacing for the rest of the film.

I also graded the flashback and dream sequences to assist in creating a surreal atmosphere. I wanted to show her emotional state as she takes drugs, rather than glamorize the act. I am particularly proud of the scene in which Jenny discovers the object of her affection has another girlfriend. I used crew laughter, recorded after cut was called, to build an eery soundscape. I think we successfully move the viewer and show the teenager's stressful and emotional state.
