Learning Vocabulary Can Be Fun!
This mediated instruction will teach how to create over 40 interactive educational games, that help students with vocabulary acquisition, using the online authoring tool, SpellingCity.com.
Vocabulary and language acquisition is challenging for Students with Special Needs and English Language Learners. In order to access curriculum, students need to acquire academic vocabulary. This online authoring tool allows teachers to use unit vocabulary words to create 40+ interactive educational games that provide multiple exposures and opportunities to practice using the new vocabulary words and helps to build segmenting and phonological awareness with audio. Research shows that only through multiple exposure and opportunities to practice new words will students retain these words into long-term memory.
The games focus on skill-building for spelling, vocabulary, phonics, and grammar.
The tutorial will guide teachers through the processes of:
- signing up for a free account,
- creating and entering their first vocabulary word list,
- creating and entering a student roster and setting student login credentials,
- generating parent letters and printing vocabulary word cards,
- selecting games and activities targeting specific language domain skills as response to intervention (RTI),
- generating assessment reports and,
- identifying help resources available through SpellingCity.com
