XR is what the industry is calling extended reality applications that include virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR). During the COVID remote learning period beginning in March, 2020, educators had to re-imagine all of our curriculum to engage students over zoom and to extend learning at home with their parents. Utilizing MIT's location based game application Tail Blazers, I created an AR Mobile Location-Based Game to Teach Safety Signs to high school students impacted by autism. The game was created for the parents to help teach their children how to cross the streets safely in their neighborhoods. It served as an extension activity to an online learning module during the COVID remote learning period.
Classroom norms and rules are reviewed each semester with our students in K-12 classrooms. I used the authoring tool CO Spaces to create an animated VR experience to begin our new school year in September, 2020. Make sure to use your mouse and keyboard arrow keys to explore this virtual space and use your mouse to click on the student in the front row who is wearing a blue headband.
